January General Meeting – Milwaukee Beer History

For January we are continuing our series relating to Milwaukee Beer History.  Once again we have long time member Dave Campbell to educate our group on our past.  The history of beer in Milwaukee started in the 1840’s and included names like Pabst, Miller, and Schlitz amongst many others.  Come join us Wednesday January 24th at Clifford’s Supper Club in Hales Corners at 7:30 to get your Bachelor’s in Milwaukee Beer History.

HOLIDAY PARTY!!! – December 20

It comes once a year, starts 30 minutes early, and is one of the best parties you’ll be invited to all year.  No, it’s not your company holiday party filled with ugly sweaters and the weird guy from IT, it’s the Barons’ Holiday Party.  Note the date and time, December 20th starting at 7:00pm.  Once the Officer voting is complete, but not before, we get to start with the delicious food courtesy of Clifford’s Supper Club.  Please bring a dish to pass, but nothing that needs at outside power source.  There is no programming for the night, just an evening to celebrate with friends.  Guests are welcome to attend for $15, cash only please.

As always, we will have a pay to play giveaway, so bring those dollars.  We will have a number of special things on tap and ask our members to bring their best homebrews to put on tap as well.  It will be a night full of excellent brews, tasty treats, and great times.

Belgian Beer Night!

One of the most anticipated nights of the year happen Wednesday November 15th…BELGIAN NIGHT!!!  Due to Thanksgiving, we move this meeting up a week to make sure as many of our members and guests as possible can attend.  Singles, dubbels, tripels, quads, and saisons oh my!!!  Rest assured that this will be one of the best nights of the year.  Bring your snacks and tasting glass because there will be a ton of excellent samples handed out.  Guests are always welcome ($15/person, cash only please) and of course our members will be more than ready for one of most highly attended meetings of the year.  We will also be having Officer nominations for next year so if you are a member and are interested in taking on a bigger role in the group, you will want to be here.

October General Meeting – Barrel Night

One good turn deserves another….which is why we are having our barrel night once again this October.  We procured a number of used spirits barrels from Waterford Stillhouse and handed them over to a few member groups to age their beer of choice in.  Five months later those beers will be on tap for everyone to sample and discuss.  This is a great opportunity for our members to brew like the pros do and learn about barrel aging.

We will be gathering on Wednesday October 25th at Clifford’s Supper Club in Hales Corners, 7:30 as always.  Guests are always welcome to join for a $15 donation.  Don’t forget those tasting glasses.  Pretty good chance a few other BA commercial examples will be available for sampling as well.  Hope to see you there.

Barons’ Summer Picnic

It’s that time again!  Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that Saturday September 9th is our annual summer picnic.  This year we are again at Greenfield Park picnic area 5 at 11515 W Rogers Ave in West Allis.  Food is officially served at 1:00 but the festivities start around noon.  Feel free to bring your chairs, tent, dogs, and kids to share in the fun.  Tickets are found athttps://beerbarons.org/product/2023-picnic-tickets/.  Please purchase ahead and know that this is MEMBERS ONLY.  Map is below but it is just west of Highway 100 in West Allis on Rogers Ave.  Hope to see you there!

November General Meeting aka BELGIAN NIGHT!

It’s that annual time of year for one of the most anticipated meetings.  It’s Belgian Night!  Good news and bad news….bad news is that this is a MEMBER’S ONLY night.  The good news is that you can join us and join on the same day.  Normal membership of $20 has been cut in half this late in the year and the meeting cost is only $10, so if you are not a member you can join us for the low low cost of $20, cash only please.  Regular members are the normal fee of $10.

Getting back to regular programming here, it’s BELGIAN NIGHT!  Lots and lots of Belgian beers will be served and we will have a special guest this year.  Rob Brennan from Supermoon Beer Company will be attending to let us know all about his brewery/blendery and the amazing Belgian style beers that Supermoon has been creating for the last 2 plus years.  With a tap room that has opened in the past month or so, we can now finally get regular pours and hang out at 3145 S Howell Ave in Bay View.  This is seriously a treat that has been, for the Barons, 12 months in the making in order to get Rob in house to hit us with his knowledge of this style of beer and brewing.

The meeting has been moved up from our normal cadence because of the Thanksgiving holiday.  We will still be at Clifford’s Supper Club in Hales Corners, 7:30pm, Wednesday, November 16.  Because of the overall cost of this meeting, we are asking that any members or guests who wish to attend use the following link so we can better plan our beer allocation

Thank you and hope to see you next week!!!

October General Meeting – Young Blood Beer Co

It seemed simple enough, just an idea “to create a brewery where a tap list of ever changing styles could intersect an environment that suggested that beer was a medium to tell a story.”  Co-owners of Young Blood Beer Co., Kyle, Billy, and Tom took this concept and ran with it.  They are on the cusp of opening a second location and are now taking time out of that busy schedule to come and visit us at 7:30 on Wednesday, October 26.  With beer names like Godammit Tammy!, One Person Conga Line, and I’m Calling About Your Vehicle’s Extended Warranty you know that there is nothing pretentious or stuffy about Young Blood.  Get ready for good times and even better beer.  As always, guests are welcome for the small fee of $15 (cash only) or you can join us for the low annual fee of $20 (1/2 off now) with a meeting fee of $10 for a regular member.  Hope to see you there!

Barons Summer Picnic

10 more days until the Barons’ Summer Picnic.  This is an event for Members and their guests only and tickets can be purchased on our website by clicking on the shopping cart in the upper right hand corner of the homepage.  The Google Maps link for Root River Picnic Area #3 is listed below.  Please note, this is NOT the location from last year, it is the location from pre-COVID days.  The easiest way to get to the park is to take Forest Home Ave, South on 92nd St, then a quick left on Root River Pkwy.  Please also reference the picture below.  12:00pm – 5:00pm  Hope to see everyone there!

August General Meeting – Radix Fermentation

From Wisconsin to California to Nevada and back to Wisconsin, Radix Fermentation has been creating unique and exciting mixed culture libations to “create new memories for our friends, family, and community.”  With a drive to bring back traditional spontaneous fermentation practices of Belgium and share them here in the Milwaukee area.

Radix means “roots” in Latin and that’s what brought Adam and Kayla Thomas back to Wisconsin after their years away.  With ties to Mobcraft, they currently brew on site there and sell at various establishments across the region.  Want to find out more about what they do?  Sign up for their newsletter or, better yet, join us at Clifford’s Supper Club in Hales Corners at 7:30 on Wednesday August 24th when Radix will be on site to share their fun and funky creations with the club.

July General Meeting – Session Homebrews

We’re officially in the middle of our summer months and as much as we love huge barrel aged stouts and thick, rich barleywine, now is the time for easy-drinking and refreshing.  Our members have volunteered to brew up their best take on a session beer.  While not a specific BJCP style, it is noted in Category 21B, Specialty IPA, that session strength is between 3.0-5.0%.  However, for the sake of our contest, the ABV is limited to 4.0%.

Don’t think that you can have a flavorful beer with that low an ABV?  Think again!  Also, if you think that making a beer like this is easy?  Think again!  One of the largest challenges is a lack of “extra” ingredients to hide behind.  The temps are likely to be hot come July 27, 7:30PM at Clifford’s Supper Club in Hales Corners, but the beers we will have on tap will be cold and crisp and ready to quench you thirst.  Hope to see you there!
