July General Meeting – Session Homebrews

We’re officially in the middle of our summer months and as much as we love huge barrel aged stouts and thick, rich barleywine, now is the time for easy-drinking and refreshing.  Our members have volunteered to brew up their best take on a session beer.  While not a specific BJCP style, it is noted in Category 21B, Specialty IPA, that session strength is between 3.0-5.0%.  However, for the sake of our contest, the ABV is limited to 4.0%.

Don’t think that you can have a flavorful beer with that low an ABV?  Think again!  Also, if you think that making a beer like this is easy?  Think again!  One of the largest challenges is a lack of “extra” ingredients to hide behind.  The temps are likely to be hot come July 27, 7:30PM at Clifford’s Supper Club in Hales Corners, but the beers we will have on tap will be cold and crisp and ready to quench you thirst.  Hope to see you there!

June General Meeting – Black Husky

Shortly after throwing Milwaukee’s Worst Locust Street Festival (their words, not ours), Black Husky Brewing is in the house for our June General Meeting.  Assuming you haven’t been under a rock for the past 15 years, you’ve heard of one of our favorite Milwaukee breweries.  Originally located in Pembine, WI, Tim and Toni Eichinger moved their brewery to Milwaukee in 2016 and have been serving up some of the best beers here to go along with the Worst Brewery Tour in Milwaukee (also not our words).

You can expect a no holds barred approach to the meeting with some of the most honest and candid beer discussion you can imagine.  Please join us at Clifford’s Supper Club in Hales Corners at 7:30 on Wednesday June 22.  $10 for regular members, $15 for guests, and we are always accepting new members ($20/yr).  Don’t forget that tasting glass!  Hope to see you all there.

April General Meeting – Gathering Place Brewing Company

For almost 5 years now, Gathering Place Brewing Company has been serving beer out of their Riverwest tap room and at 7:30 on April 27th, at Clifford’s Supper Club in Hales Corners, they will be joining us to do the same.  Always involved in various local events, they really show the meaning of the word “community.”  Even if you can’t make our meeting, you could always stop by their place at 811 E. Vienna Ave. in Milwaukee.  Or, you could always do both.  As always, guests are always welcome to our meetings, $15 fee (cash only please), and we are happy to add new members ($20/yr).  Hope to see you there.

Thank you Omega Yeast

If you weren’t at the March meeting you really missed out on a great presentation by Sam Webb from Omega Yeast.  We usually ask our guests to really go into detail about things like brewing process, ingredients, and the science off brewing, but Sam really knocked it out of the park.  Also, thank you to the brewers who participated in the Kveik parallel, it was very interesting to see the differences between that and regular sacc yeast.  Hopefully it inspires you to try out these strains for yourself and see how powerful they can be.

Barrel Night!!!

The month has shifted, but the experience will be the same.  Barrel night is finally here.  This year, the club sponsored barrels came from Journeyman Distillery in Three Oaks, MI.  Of course, we have other members sharing other barrels they’ve made over the year.  This is one of the most anticipated meetings of the year.

Point of order…this is also membership renewal day for a lot of our members, so please make sure to come early.  The meeting officially starts at 7:30 at Clifford’s Supper Club in Hales Corners.  The meeting is $10 for paid members, $15 for guests, cash only.  If you wish to join at the meeting, $20 is the fee for a regular member, $100 for Gold Card members.  More info can be found at beerbarons.org.     We kindly request that if you plan on attending, follow the link below for the sign-up.  Hope to see everyone there!

Holiday Party 2021!!!

DECEMBER 15TH – 7:00

Now that Thanksgiving is in the rearview mirror, we get to look forward to our biggest meeting of the year, our Holiday Party.  Same rules apply as in previous years: there will be no actual “programming” for the night, bring a dish to pass that does not require any additional heat source, get ready to vote for next year’s officers, and be prepared to share a few beverages with your closest brewing buddies.  There will be commercial beverages on draft but feel free to bring some to share and make sure to bring your tasting glasses.  Please note the different start time; this allows us to do the voting and enough time to get everyone up to eat.  Once again, our friends at Clifford’s will be providing broasted chicken and potatoes, always a hit.  We hope to see you all there!!!

Schnapp Hans Cup 2021 Results are posted

We just wrapped up the 2021 Schnapp Hans Cup, and we are thrilled to announce the winners. Our club had a great showing this year, including a clean sweep of the Strong and Wood-Aged Beers. Congrats to all the Barons and others who medaled as well. The quality of beer this year was the best yet!

Big thanks to everyone who came together to make this competition happen. Without the volunteers, judges, stewards, and entrants we wouldn’t have a competition to enjoy. A huge thanks to our gracious host, the Delafield Brewhaus for making us feel at home and for sponsoring all the awards! Go get a beer and some delicious food there next time you are in the area.

See all the winners here: https://schnapphanscup.com/competition. If you entered, log into your account to download your scoresheets. Prosit!

October General Meeting – Indeed Brewing

Originating in Minneapolis, Indeed Brewing opened a pilot brewery and taproom at 520 S 2nd St in Milwaukee in 2018.  They had been self-distributing in Wisconsin and decided that Milwaukee was the perfect fit for expansion.  Indeed wanted to make it clear that this wasn’t simply going to be a satellite location with all the same variety that you could find in their Minneapolis tap room.  Instead, they operate a pilot system creating new beers while integrating into our community with our locals with a focus on developing new brands while celebrating their existing portfolio.

Fun fact about Indeed, they carried over their tradition of their charitable giving program, Indeed We Can.  Their employee-driven program donates 100% of taproom net profits to a local charity every Wednesday night of the year. This allows them to connect with Milwaukee on a deeper level by engaging with area nonprofits and giving back to our new community.

You can come sample their beer with us on Wednesday October 27th at 7:30pm at Clifford’s Supper Club in Hales Corners.  This meeting is open to members and guests alike ($15 fee for guests, cash only).  As always, new members are always welcome.  At this point in the year, membership is half price ($10) which takes that meeting fee to $10.  We think you get where we are coming from here.  Hope to see you there!!!

August General Meeting – Vennture Brewing

Coffee + Beer + Community isn’t just a mantra, it’s a way of life for the folks at Vennture Brewing.  Opened in July 2018, owners Simon McConico, Rob Gustafson, and Jake Rohde know a thing or two about this.  You feel it from the moment you walk through their doors at 5519 W. North Ave in Milwaukee.  Open early to get your hot and cold brew coffee then into the night with some of the best beer in the Milwaukee area.

We will be having Vennture as our guest this month to tell us more about their brewery and beverages and maybe even a little about their coffee roasting and how they incorporate coffee into all kinds of their creations.  As always, we will be at Clifford’s Supper Club in Hales Corners, 7:30pm, Wednesday, August 25th.  Guests are always welcome ($15, cash only please) and we also are happy to sign up new members to the club.  Hope to see you there.
