Wisconsin State Fair
Homebrew Competition Re-cap
The Wisconsin State Fair Homebrew Competition was held on Fri/Sat, May 14th-15th. 218 beers and meads were entered, down a few from last year.
Awards are based on score alone, meaning your entry does not just compete against the other beers in your category but instead against all beers entered. Thus, if you've won a Gold medal, it means you've done a really fine job and your beer was rated among the approximate top 15% of the entries. But even if an entry hadn't won an award, it's still a great way to get some tips on improving brewing to style through some credible feedback from the BJCP qualified judge's evaluation.

Mike Rice did a fine job in his first year as Wisconsin State Fair Homebrew Competition Coordinator.
We had a great group of judges and stewards this year. We once again had a higher percentage of BJCP judges this year than ever before. A big thanks goes out to all who helped with this event.
Once again a very special thanks to David Stanton for his great work as Head Steward, keeping all the entries organized. And a big thank you goes to Jeff Enders who, while no longer running the event, gave us a lot of help and advice.
So start planning your brew schedule to get beers ready for next year’s competition.
Cheers,
Dan Schlosser
