Wisconsin State Fair
Homebrew Competition Re-cap
The Wisconsin State Fair Homebrew Competition took place on May 19 & 20 and was a big success. 208 beers and meads were entered, again more than last year.
Awards are based on score alone, meaning your entry does not just compete against the other beers in your category but instead against all beers entered. Thus, if you've won a Gold medal, it means you've done a really fine job and your beer was rated among the approximate top 15% of the entries. But even if an entry hadn't won an award, it's still a great way to get some tips on improving brewing to style through some credible feedback from the BJCP qualified judge's evaluation.
104 ribbons were awarded, with the top 6 awards going to:
- Best of Show: Michael Rice with a Belgian Witbier
- Second Best of Show: Edward Mathis with an American Brown ale
- Best Amber Beer: Kevin Meves with an American IPA
- Best Black Beer: Thomas Schroeder with a Dark American Lager
- Best Strong Beer: John LeBerg with a Strong Scotch ale
- Best Specialty Beer: Dan Schlosser with a Belgian Pale ale
Congratulations to everyone.
Ribbons and plaques will be sent out after the State Fair in August.
And finally, a BIG thanks to all who helped out. You can¹t have a competition without Stewards and Judges, and you guys and girls were great Stewards and Judges.
Thanks again.
So start brewing those beers for next year¹s competition, and I hope to see you there.
Cheers,
