Membership Information

We are always happy to accept new members. If you are a homebrewer and/or beer enthusiast in the Milwaukee area, you should consider joining our crew!

We meet monthly on the 4th Wednesday of the month at Clifford’s Supper Club, with the exception of the 3rd Wednesdays in November and December.

Benefits of Membership

Members enjoy access to club events and will be part of a group of brewers with a wealth of brewing knowledge and experience. They attend our monthly meetings for a flat $15 fee – opposed to $20 for guests. Please checkout some of our previous meetings to get a sense of our monthly programming.

Members gain access to club communication channels and get first dibs on any club activities, field trips, volunteer opportunities, and any other special item (such as group buys).

Membership runs from February 1st through January 31st of the following year.

FAQs about our Meetings and Membership

When and Where are the meetings?

January through October meetings are the fourth Wednesday of the Month and are open to guests.  November and December Meetings are the third Wednesday of the month and are only open to members.  Meetings start at 7:30 pm and are held at Clifford’s Supper Club. (hyperlink: http://www.cliffordsfinefood.com.)  On rare occasions, meeting dates, times and locations may change.  So please check the clubs calendar web page to confirm dates and times.

What are the Costs?

Please see the Memberships and Dues section above. Note that purchasing a Gold Card along with your membership covers all your monthly meeting costs for the year.

What Should I bring?

Please bring cash to pay the fees as we do not accept credit cards. Also, bring your own tasting glass to all of the meetings.  We do not use Clifford’s glassware in order to keep the Banquet hall Costs low.  You are welcome and encouraged to bring in your own beer to share with your table.  Nothing makes friends faster than asking someone if they want to try your beer.  It is also okay to bring chips, cheese, sausage, crackers, etc. to go with the beer.  Please do not bring larger snacks or dinner, as we encourage you to purchase those items from Clifford’s.  Please clean-up your food and beer leftovers at the end of the meeting.

How do the meetings work?

When you arrive please proceed to the check-in table.  When you pay your fee you will receive a wristband, which allows club privileges for the night.  Any table is open for occupying for the night.  You will see many tables of established club members.  We encourage you to ask and join any table of existing members.  The club is usually very welcoming of new members.

There will be jockey boxes with many different varieties of commercial and homebrew.  At most meetings, the beers will be tied to the main topic for the evening.  Feel free to help yourself to free samples throughout the meeting.  The Meeting starts with club business and announcements. When that is finished we move to the main presentation of the evening. We request that you keep any side conversations as quiet as possible during the presentation. After the presentation, the meeting moves to the social hour, which is a great time to discuss and talk with friends or other new members.  We close the jockey boxes at 10:00 pm.  We encourage ride sharing or a cab if the need arises.

What are the presentations on?

Some meetings are commercial beer nights.  On commercial beer nights, we will have a professional brewer, owner, or distributor talk about their brewery, experiences, beers, methods, etc.  The members are always welcome to ask any questions that they may have.  When we have a commercial beer night there will be several beers available from the brewer.  Often these beers are new releases or beers that you can not readily get elsewhere.

Another popular topic is experiment nights.  On these nights we have some of our members brew identical beers with one variable changed.  For example, we may brew 12 identical beers except change the hop or yeast that is used or the temperature that each of the beers is fermented at.  This allows you to really learn what a certain ingredient will do to your beer.  On these nights the jockey boxes will be filled with the different experimental beers and perhaps a few others.

A third common topic is beer style.  The meeting may focus on specific style or type of beer such as barrel aged, sour, Belgian, wheat, etc.  On these nights the jockey boxes will be filled with beers that match the topic.

Other topics may include things such as equipment, techniques, or just about anything related to brewing.

What else does the club have to offer?

The club has several special events throughout the year such as the club picnic, beer tours, bus trips to Great Taste of the Midwest and Wisconsin Microbrewers Festival at Chilton, Fondy Brewfest and the Beer Barons own World of Beer  Festival.  The club offers classes on Beer and Mead judging.  Also at most meetings, you can have BJCP judges provide feedback on your beer.

Is the club for me?

The club is for both new and experienced brewers and anyone who is just interested in quality beer.  You must be of legal drinking age to attend.
