Brewing 101 - Bare Bones Basic Brewing

Introduction to basic brewing through the use of commercial or shop made kits.

1 Session (3-4 hours) Fee: Free
Using specialty grains to spice up your brew. Covers types of specialty malts
and adjuncts, how to use them, and what to expect from them.

The many ways to use hops and what you'll get as well as what potential problems
can be caused.

200 - Intermediate Brewing Classes
Some experience required.
Brewing 201 - Intermediate Home Brewing Techniques
1 Session (3-4 hours) Fee: $5

Brewing 202 - Adjuncts
Adjuncts are those things used in brewing other than malt that add fermentable
sugars. Corn sugar, rice, oats, candi sugar, brown sugar, treacle, pumpkin,
and so on. Learn more about these adjuncts, the flavors, and how to process
them.

Brewing 205 - Mead Making
Mead is the honey wine of the Vikings and so much more. Come learn how to
make this taste treat from Steve Piatz, 2008 AHA Mead Maker of the year.

Brewing 310 - Beer Styles Series
Advanced discussion of beer styles and brewing. These are what we call "Style
Sessions". Advanced brewers within the club gather information on the
styles and host a brew day at their house. These are less formal than the
other classes but still very educational both on the styles and brewing techniques.
These are not formally scheduled but posted to our forum and may be short
notice. There is no fee for these but it's nice to bring a 6 pack along.

400 - Seriously Advanced Brewing and Beer Evaluation Classes
These classes will be a combination of lecture and discussion. All include a lot of reading.
Brewing 401 - Intro to Sensory Analysis
2 Sessions (4 hours each) Fee: $20
First session is all about identifying flavors in beer. Session two is learning
the off-flavors and will include a doctored beer tasting.

Brewing 402 - BJCP Training
6 Sessions (3-4 hours each with short tests) Fee: $10 - $20 each
session. BJCP Exam at completion is optional.
If you don't know what the BJCP
program is then you probably aren't ready for this class. If you do know,
this class is aimed at helping you pass the exam or advance in the program.
Once you take this you'll be invited to special advanced discussion and education

Brewing 403 - BJCP Mead Training
If you're already a judge, expand your capabilities with the BJCP Mead Certification.
Steve Piatz, Grand Master II judge and one of the people who developed the
BJCP Mead program will teach this class so you get to learn from the best

These classes will be discussion, not lecture. Everybody is expected to do a lot of reading, contribute articles for everybody to read, and add their own input, knowledge, experience, etc. even if it's only questions.

Advanced Studies in Yeast

have time.
Courses are open to everybody of legal drinking age. You do not have to be a member of the Beer Barons to participate.
